I'm talking about the military draft lottery which suspended my college deferent status. I was assigned the number 125 as I recall and the lottery was conducted and the quota filled by the time it got into the low 100's. I have grappled with survivor's remorse ever since, wondering what would have happened if I had drawn a low number and been drafted. I wonder if I would have had the right stuff to go to war, kill the enemy, and die for my fellow soldiers if called upon to do so. I suppose one never knows how they would react until they are actually in that situation. All I can say is thank you for your service, Odie!Shady Del Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03839935472941264414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5186516720579158448.post-41455318505012505002010-12-16T09:52:34.600-08:002010-12-16T09:52:34.600-08:00Thanks for sharing; I love listening to stories fr...Thanks for sharing; I love listening to stories from people's pasts! Especially from people in the military. Both of my grandfathers were (in the military) and I love the stories they tell! I'm so glad I was able to read all four parts at once, I'm not very patient! Something must have knocked them on the head and say ok, time to move on. Unbelievable. But you sure made good with that situation. I didn't think you were going to say that you were going to be married for 33 years. It must have been a terrific shock when your wife left you, but, as you say, with your beautiful daughters, you can't regret the marriage. Your followers know that there was a happy ending to this story, so all's well that ends well. Thank you so much for sharing what was a very good story.Southhamsdarlinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12285980805569582676noreply@blogger.com
