Something "Fishy" in Weldon & Roanoke Rapids, NC

Yes, Weldon & Roanoke Rapids, NC wants everyone to know that this area is the Rockfish capital of the world.  They have fiberglass fish on display all over the area. The first one was appropriately placed beside the boat access ramp near the river.

This one is huge and about the size of my car hanging at the entrance to Weldon, NC

These are mounted on one of the posts that hold up the big boy.

This flowered one is at the entrance to the local visitor's office in front of our Super Walmart

This one is located at one of the big intersections in Roanoke Rapids, NC where you go to all the drug stores, one is behind this silver rockfish. Turning left takes you to the hospital and doctors offices, right goes to downtown.

This last one with so much color is out front of the Roanoke Rapids Chamber of Commerce on the main street that runs through both towns.

Wal-Mart Vs The Morons

Wal-Mart vs. The Morons
1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from
January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world's largest private employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only fifteen years.

8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9.. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy.

This should be read and understood by all Americans Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!

To President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature. It is now official that the majority of you are corrupt morons:

a. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 236 years to get it right and it is broke.

b. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 76 years to get it right and it is broke.

c. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 73 years to get it right and it is broke.
d. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 47 years to get it right; Still a big problem.
e. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 46 years to get it right and they are broke.
f. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 41 years to get it right and it is broke.
g. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 34 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure. You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.

By the way; since the Eisenhower era there have been over 200 taxes added to our taxpaying citizens so during the times of government run agency’s failures they had more tax money income that ever.

And you took over the Mustang Ranch in Nevada because they didn't pay their taxes, and now it is closed. You could not even run a house of prostitution.

AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM ??

Happy Australia Day to all my Aussie friends

Thankful Thursday-My Aunt Katie

At 103 my Aunt Katie still amazes us every day and my family feels so blessed to have her near to us to love and be encouraged by her. You can be feeling down and after a few minutes with her your spirits are lifted. She has that effect on everyone.

She doesn't want to be a bother to anyone. A few days ago she was alone in the kitchen at the sink, turned around and just fell in the floor. Praise God she did not break anything or really get hurt.  She has the alert button hanging around her neck but didn't want to bother anyone so she thought it out. If I get a chair cushion on the floor I can get my knees on it and get myself up. So she untied the cushion and managed to get her knees on it and pulled herself up. Anyone of us would have ran to her aid without a second thought but she is a trooper and a survivor heading for the big 104 in September.

Everyone needs an Aunt Katie in their lives. I sure am thankful I have mine.

Cold Day, Warm Hearts, Hot Food

Oysters that were steamed to perfection were the star of the show at our family gathering. Linda's brother-in-law Tommie made sure everything was "just right" for a perfect evening.

A barn in the half cylindrical shape with a cement floor has been on this site for over 50 years and still serving a valuable purpose for family gatherings.

Larger than it looks from outside it had all the elements needed for a great time.  A very large picnic table, wood burning stove, refrigerator and plenty of room for shucking oysters after taking them out of the steamer.

Side view showing the grill where 2 chickens were cooked vertically with a can of beer that steamed the interior of the birds making them so good. Later the grill was used to cook link sausage that was the hit of the party for me. You have to be a local to understand. S.B. Smith's Red & White Supermarket has been making link sausage for so long and if people move away and come back to visit they always stop at Smiths to get a 5 or 10 lb box to carry home and savor. We like a healthy piece placed in a hot dog bun and topped with yellow mustard. I knew I had overindulged when I finished the second one.

Closer look at the "beer butt" chickens cooking.

Good stuff, from left to right, lots of chips, my crock pot full of my special chili, then Linda's hot dog chili and another crock pot of black eye peas.

The large wood burning heater with the largest cast iron frying pan I have ever seen full of hot dog weiners getting hot for the crowd.

Better picture of the stove and hot dogs, the dish on the left was a special recipe sauce made of ketchup, hot sauce & butter. The big pot just had water to humidify the air.

The only thing the barn was lacking was a rest room so for that we had to walk up the hill to quaint little house that is so adorable.

All these pictures were taken just turning around in one spot in the center of the room, small but lovely and I could so live in this space and be content.

Happy Thursday everyone. It is a beautiful day here in NC after the torrential rain we had late yesterday. Lord knows we needed the rain but not all at the same time. Didn't know until this morning that there was severe damage in some areas with high winds and rain. So, actually we were blessed.

There appears to be a trend that has caught on in and around the area I live with people getting serious about losing weight. Linda's daughter, Beth is selling a product that you mix into a shake that replaces 2 meals a day and then you eat sensible at the other meal. Many have lost up to 30 lbs so I decided to give it a try myself. You see I am the kind of person that if I have a structured system to go by I can stay on it better than just trying to choose the right things to eat. Yesterday I started and weighed to get a starting point and it was 202 lbs so time will tell how it will be by the time I go for my next surgery on February 2nd. I hope to really surprise the doctors with a significant amount lost.

Linda is already noticing a difference in her energy level and is walking a lot more.  She also showed me where she has a lot more room in her clothes and has her excited. I won't go into what brand they are using because I found that Sam's Club has a product called Naturade Total Soy that does the same thing with only a few calories over the other product and costs about $19 for 24 days. I discovered that if you add a couple of spoon fulls of butterscotch pudding mix and low fat peanut butter you end up with a shake that tastes like you are drinking a Butterfinger. I just had my third one and I can't wait for the next one they are so good.

We have scales here at my office that are actually like the ones found in doctors offices that we use for UPS so they are really accurate and yesterday I weighed to get a starting point and as I said above it was 202 and this morning before eating breakfast it read 198 which amazed me. Honestly I think this will actually work. I will keep you posted.

This is Thursday and I am thankful today for so many areas of my life. Last Saturday being with my two sisters and all 3 of my girls made me realize how blessed I am with family that loves me unconditionally. I am thankful for my health which is awesome considering I will be 65 in March. A little over a year ago I never even thought about blogging and now it is a part of my life and I am blessed with friends literally all over the world and I am so thankful for the impact they have on my life as I share with them and read their posts that move me, inspire me, make me laugh or want to cry. I consider myself a rich man today with all that God has blessed me with, not material things or piles of cash but the important blessings of friends and family.

It really works!!!

It's true, it really works.  I was looking around at Pinterest one day and saw a photo where someone had put green onion roots in water and grew more green onions so the other day I was cutting up some and decided to try it.  When I started it was just the white part and look at all the green I have now. I keep it by my kitchen window to get sunlight. Give it a try.

First Video Attempt

Was outside with Rocky and Soffie this morning so I tried a video that for some reason doesn't seem to have sound but you'll get the idea and hope you don't get dizzy from my movements.
