Aunt Katie 9-21-08 - 10-21-12

Katie Langley Whitley

My beloved Aunt Katie passed this morning about 5:15 after a very long and special life. A little over two weeks ago she stopped eating and was only getting clear fluids so it took this amount of time for her body to shut down. My sister Linda and my cousin Melanie were by her side until she breathed her last. She meant so much to so many people and will be missed for a very long time. Rest in peace my sweet Aunt Katie.

Yesterday I attended the funeral of my Aunt Tennie (Ernestine) who was my mom's sister and was 95 and also lived a blessed life as a caregiver for other older people and sharing the gospel everywhere she went.

  1. Odie, I am terribly sorry to learn of the loss of dear Aunt Katie. Only recently you were reminding my readers of Katie's longevity in conjunction with my continuing coverage of the life of 100 year old Margaret Schneider. I can only imagine all that Katie experienced in her long life. So many presidents came and went. So much American and world history written. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you pay tribute to Katie and as you also mourn the loss of Aunt Tennie who, like Katie, enjoyed a very long life. God bless!

  2. Oh, Odie, I don't have the words to tell you how very sorry I am for your loss, but it is heaven's gain. She was an amazing woman, and a true example of a life well lived. I feel so much richer for having come to know her through all the loving things you've written about her. My prayers are with you all~

  4. Dear Odie and Linda--you are in our thoughts and prayers. Someone who has always been there, gone now. It's a hard time for all who knew her. She had such a happy death, time to say goodbye. Such a blessing.
