Every day as I commute back & forth from home to work I see scenes like the one above. Vehicles left for whatever reason beside a rural road or the interstate. As days go by I see the same vehicle sitting there, vulnerable to the elements and whatever someone may want to do to it.
Now a lot of the vehicles I witness are not clunkers but really nice cars or trucks. As a rule I am not a very trusting person and that goes double for my vehicle that I depend on greatly. I would not leave my car beside a busy highway for an hour, much less a day or days.
For years Linda and I have had the service of AAA. It's really not expensive and when an unfortunate event happens all I have to is call their toll free number and within an hour help will be there to get me to safety. Whether it be a flat tire, out of gas, locked out or mechanical problems requiring the vehicle to be towed to a repair facility they are there without fail.
I have had a battery blow up and was taken on a roll back to an auto store when a new battery was installed. On three occasions I have had a flat or blowout and they came to change the flat tire with the little spare so I could be on my way.
Even if I didn't have car trouble AAA also supplies me with information regarding trips I plan to take like driving directions, books on the area I plan to visit and more. Yes folks, I ride down the interstate and see a really nice and expensive car sitting there all by itself and I say to myself, why?
I agree that one of the biggest advantages of having Triple A coverage is the maps and driving directions. I trust them to know what's happening in real time much more so than other sources on the internet. Have a good night, Odie!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't make much sense. I saw an abandoned car on the side of the highway this morning that had, "I'll be back," written in white shoe polish on the windshield.
ReplyDeleteIt is really strange, isn't it my friend, why people should just leave their cars like that, especially when you see the same vehicle for several days. Very weird!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was visiting Los Angeles once we went to Union Station. There was a car in the parking lot with a license on it that was six years old. We laughed because in our city we have gotten tickets when our license is one day over expiration. A car left by the side of the road wouldn't last a day here.
ReplyDeleteIt's everywhere Odie. Now that I have AARP I will check into AAA when I get my car next week. Would be a good idea I think.
ReplyDeleteWe have triple A--I will always think of you now when I see an abondoned car Odie!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a mystery that would make a good start to a book! Hopefully, in most of these cases, either the driver was arrested, deported (do they do that anymore?) or taken into custody by the TSA (who are supplied with info by our local law enforcement and who are now integrated into the bus and train stations) Or maybe they simply did not have AAA. My cousin once had car trouble when he lived in Arizona and foolishly decided to walk across a wilderness portion of the desert in the dark to get home. He fell from the top of a cliff and was instantly killed. No one knew what happened to him until 10 years later when his remains were discovered. It was a heartbreaking ordeal for my uncle...the not knowing what happened. So, Odie...that's a very good question.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I did not intend to offend any particular people from any specific origin or nationality...the "hopefully" part was meant as a positive alternative to an untimely death. And I do have an over active imagination...
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late with paying you a visit, Odie, but we have had internet outages and I missed this post. Thank you for you lovely comment on my latest post. It always pleases me no end to know someone really enjoys what I've shared.
ReplyDeleteWe are also AA members and would never leave our cars on the side of the road. That really does seem strange!
I hope you and Linda have a lovely, restful weekend. I'm wondering how you're getting on with your studies? It's been a while since you last gave us any feedback.
I never understood that either. Are they so wealthy that their cars are disposable? Hugs and sincere wishes for a lovely weekend xo
ReplyDeleteOdie I don't understand that either. We don't have AAA but our insurance pays for towing, etc. It seems so very wasteful don't you think? I'm happy to see you seem to have at least a breather or two to keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteHope school is going grade A!
Have a lovely Sunday!
