Flooding in Roanoke Rapids, NC

9th Street

We were fine out in the country where we live but the city was not so lucky with large area flooded and one street with a huge section washed away.  Also the interstate between exit 171 where the big theater is and the 173 main Roanoke Rapids exit was closed to north and southbound traffic causing massive rerouting of traffic down highway 301 and highway 903 which is the road I live on so we saw never ending traffic go by our house.  Haven't seen anything like this since the enormous flood in Rocky Mount back in 1999.

Let's go to Roanoke Rapids

Contrary to possible ideas that I had vanished from blogland I am back. Just haven't had the proper inspiration for a blog lately and I wouldn't call today's blog inspiration but at least it's Odie. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Something "Fishy" in Weldon & Roanoke Rapids, NC

Yes, Weldon & Roanoke Rapids, NC wants everyone to know that this area is the Rockfish capital of the world.  They have fiberglass fish on display all over the area. The first one was appropriately placed beside the boat access ramp near the river.

This one is huge and about the size of my car hanging at the entrance to Weldon, NC

These are mounted on one of the posts that hold up the big boy.

This flowered one is at the entrance to the local visitor's office in front of our Super Walmart

This one is located at one of the big intersections in Roanoke Rapids, NC where you go to all the drug stores, one is behind this silver rockfish. Turning left takes you to the hospital and doctors offices, right goes to downtown.

This last one with so much color is out front of the Roanoke Rapids Chamber of Commerce on the main street that runs through both towns.

Sunday in my neck of the woods

An absolutely beautiful day in Halifax County with a sky like I love to see.

Rocky helping me check things out as he enjoys the times he gets to be outside with me.

More views of the sky to enjoy.

Melody's where I get my hair cut and she does an awesome job.

An area separating the Roanoke River

The river is quite rocky and famous for it's Rock Fish.

Some area fishermen trying their luck during the early morning hours.

Located on the river is Kapstone, the areas biggest employer, a very large paper mill.

This is the parking area for people who want to put their boats in for whatever reason.

The last 3 pictures are of the damage the tornado did a while back when it touched down here in Roanoke Rapids.
