Well Linda & I made it to Siler City, NC and found her Aunt Frances at the new Independent Living facility she has just moved into. Had a nice time talking about family stuff and had a great lunch.
Later in the afternoon we checked in to the Celebrity Dairy B & B and spent some time outside with the goats. They have 64 milk goats and their utters were really large with milk. When it came time to milk them 18 were directed into the milking room and I thought it was so great that they seemed to know exactly what to do going up a ramp and sticking their heads through metal bars to get at the food and triggering a device that closed on their neck preventing her from leaving that station until the neck device was released. The attendant has two nozzles that slip onto the two teats and it is all milked in a minute or two.
The most fun so far was playing with the baby goats. They were so friendly and all of them wanted attention at the same time. I hugged more goats today than I think I ever have before. I wish I had 6 or 8 of them at home but that would not be practical so I guess we will have to keep coming back to this B & B to get our goat fix.
I understand that they will have goat cheese available tomorrow morning and I will be getting some to carry home. It is almost time to find the bed and call it a day so take care blog family and I will be back later tomorrow probably after we get home and then I can post some great pictures of the goats and a large pen of beautiful chickens too. Good night folks.
Sound like a delightful day.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to see the pictures of the goats.
Cheese sound svery yummy!
Safe journeys home
Blessings
I love goats! They are so funny and friendly as you said. Sounds like you had a wonderful day, Odie. So did I. Goodnight and sweet dreams.
ReplyDeleteI want goat pics, Odie! I've had close encounters with goats at petting zoos and they're lots of fun. I wish I could have seen that milking ritual. Thanks for your report, good friend, and have a wonderful Sunday!
ReplyDeleteBaby goats are so cute. I can't wait to see the pictures. Sounds like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteBaby goats are so soft and silky. I love them. Goat cheese in salad is one of my favorites when I go out to eat a fine dinner. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSounds as if you had a lovely, fulfilling day there Odie. Like the others above, I adore goats, especially the baby ones, so I'm looking forward to the photos. I love goats cheese as a starter when I go out to restaurants. It's gorgeous, just lightly grilled served on a bruschetta with some balsamic vinegar and salad leaves.
ReplyDeleteI bet the fresh goat cheese was amazing. Have a fun visit.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are having fun Odie. Give the little goats a hug for me:-)
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds like fun! I'm so glad you were able to go there. Tom and I enjoy visiting a nearby farm that is open to the public and that's where we get our goat fix. :) We wish we were brave enough to have our own goats, but we're not, so we just keep visiting the little goats over at that farm. heh. Again, glad you both had a good time! ...Debra
ReplyDeletebaby goats are so cute, and goat cheese is so good! have a great time.
ReplyDeleteI like making goat noises, they're similar to sheep and now every time I make that noise it reminds me of Alaska. We were on the train going to our cruise ship and on the mountain side were Dall sheep and everyone on the train were oohing and ahhing, our server was irritated, "They're just sheep" and I freaked everyone out because I made the noises and they thought the goats were really loud enough so we could hear it through the train windows.
