How many times have I been approached by a family member that has acquired something and it was "just" $10 or it was "only" $10. een I suppose that was said to convince me that it was a bargin that couldn"t be passed up.
Usually the item was not really necessary but we have become a society that constantly has to have more things. I am not totally against having things but if a lot of homes are like mine there are so many things that every flat spot is covered & any storage spaces are overflowing.
I guess that is one of the reasons I chose "The Simple Life" for my blog title. I admit that a lot of what resides at our address is because of me but I would certainly be happier if two thirds of it evaporated tonight.
Brings to mind the orphanage in Russia I have been corresponding with that spends every day without the basic things we take for granted. I guess this is the Christmas that I have had the less fortunate on my mind more so than ever before and we are working on doing better.
You have a great attitude, Odie. When I am in the mall, I see lots of things I would love to have, but I have no place to put them. And so I think, "Do I need them?" No, I don't. We can use that money we might have spent to help others.
ReplyDeleteWe can certainly do with less. I have downsized a lot over the last 3 years since we moved and it's not so bad. There's so many who are worse off than us.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your philosophy, Odie. You experience peace and happiness when you eliminate the clutter from your life and keep it simple. Less is more.
ReplyDeleteSame problem with me...I'm always tempted to buy stuff that are not really necessary for me...These days, I make a conscious effort not to buy stuff I really don't need...it's hard at times, but I try...and I like what you said...need to do something for the people who are less fortunate...
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of the above comments. We do have far too much and I certainly try not to add to it any more. Here's to The Simple Life, Odie!!
ReplyDeleteI've had the same thoughts on my mind this Christmas. It's amazing how we have all this stuff we don't need (and to some extent, don't even use!), but it's hard to just pack it up and get rid of it!
