I Need Some Relief - Now

Seems the older I get the more noise, especially the useless variety grinds away at me until I feel like I will self destruct if I don't get away from it I will explode.

I had one of those situations in my shop today. Ordinarily all the technicians are in the field on call and I can find some peace in my day. Just happened that 3 of them showed up here at the same time and their mouths didn't stop flapping until they left. If it was intellegent sounding conversation I might not mind so much but they like to joke around about taking shortcuts and give the impression from what they are saying that they are green and on their first day of repairing copiers when they had been doing it for 10 years or more.

On days like today I think about that shell of a school bus I used as a get-a-way place in the woods. Sitting in there all I could hear was the birds chirping and the leaves moving in the trees. I could think or just soak in the moment and enjoy the peace. Now all I can do is remember back wishing and hoping.

  1. I know just how you feel, Odie! I, too, find the world a very noisy place! So many people cannot survive without background noise. I also relish those times when I can enjoy the soothing sounds of silence.

  2. Well, I know you didn't mean to be funny, Odie, but picturing you in a shell of an old bus made me laugh out loud. Try to get some peace and rest this weekend. I hope Linda is feeling better.

  3. I remember you writing about the school bus quite a while back, Odie. It was the place you went to get away from it all, just like I used to do as a boy when I climbed a tree and sat there up there alone for a couple of hours. Memories of sitting in that bus shell can still be useful to you on days when the noise and clutter of life get to be too much. Don't be afraid to go there in your mind and relax. It's the same principle as imagining yourself on a beach or your own little island. Whatever works for you.

  4. I do remember your post about that bus. I had a bus too in my wild days in Idaho and I was able to use it much as you did yours. At least we can think back to that simpler time and try to tune out the garbage noise that have to put up with at times, right? Better days ahead for you!

  5. UGH I felt like that after today. I had a super busy day with lots of people and I am just exhausted. A bus in the woods sounds wonderful!
