Memories

Sadly this used to be Carolina College of Commerce in Sharpsburg,NC and the school I graduated from in 1967 with a diploma in Senior Accounting. I loved that school and the instructors were awesome. It is also where I met my ex but that is another story for another time. 

There is a brick home behind the building that was the owner's home. His wife was handicapped and I never really knew when it finally closed down and for whatever reason. In my daily travels seeing customers for Quality Office Equipment I would have to pass by this building. At one point in time recently there was a combination flea market and market for local veggies. 

As the sign clearly indicates the property is now for sale in it's entirety and by now should probably be demolished and start from scratch. Oh well, I still have my memories of happy days between high school and the US Army. A really short 2 years. I just wish it could have ended more gracefully.

Wilmington, NC trip - first post of several

   We are safely at home, car unloaded and dogs retrieved from Linda's mother. It was truly a fun weekend & it is a lovely area with so much to see and we fully intend to return when the weather will cooperate and not freeze our butts off.


   One of our great times was at the "World Market". It had so many food and drink items from literally all over the world. Today I will show you what I found in their wine section. Not really knowing what each one would taste like I picked some simply because of where it came from. First I want to display is from South Africa. I love Moscato so I really felt safe with this one called "jam Jar".

  The next one is also from South Africa and of course I got it because of our friends Desiree & Linda who live in that beautiful land. This one is called "Goats do Roam" bottled in 2010.  

   The third to display is also from South Africa and is called "Pomula" and is a wine spritz made with exotic Pomegranate and Marula fruit. It is bottled in Wellington, South Africa.

   OK, the last one to display for you came from Australia where we find the amazing Mynx. It was bottled by d'Arenberg in 2009 and is called "The Hermit Crab" viognier Marsanne and also has Adelaide above the name and I think that is where our girl Mynx actually lives.  

  I will tell you about another selection we brought home even though I don't have a picture. The bottles are very little kind of like the liquor bottles some of you may have seen on an airplane. It is called Choco Noir, chocolate wine specialty. We had seen this kind of wine in large bottles but didn't want to invest in it without tasting it first. I'll let you know how it was.

A couple of things

It is a beautiful day here in NC so Rocky & I were out walking and paid a visit to "grandma's" apple tree in her front yard. I was sampling some of the fruit and pick one that had imperfections or small areas starting to decay. I would clean the good part on my shirt and eat what I could and toss the rest across the ground with Rocky chasing after it. He would lick it and look at me like he was saying do it again. After I had my satisfaction of green apples and tossed the last one Rocky picked it up and decided it was his. He brought it all the way to the house and has eat quite a bit of it by now.

The other thing I wanted to let know about is that the City of Weldon has put a new statue in place letting everyone know that our Roanoke River and specifically this area is the Rock Fish Capital of the World. There is a lot of fishing tournaments that take place here so I guess there may be some truth to their claim.

It is mid afternoon on this saturday and we have put up squash in the freezer, been to town for groceries and had an early afternoon nap. A very good day so far. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Our Latest Discovery - Grand Asia Market

We had seen this place from the beltline in the Raleigh/Cary, NC area and wanted to scope it out so since we had to travel to Fuquay-Varina anyway for Ashley's house warming party it was a perfect time to check it out. Having a GPS to guide us was also a blessing.

While making our way to the check out we approached their bakery and OMG. We saw a roll about 6 to 8 inches long and 4 inches wide cooked with spring onions on the top and were still warm and the softest roll I have ever touched. Needless to say Linda and I sat in car and ate one each before continuing our journey.

In their fish department at the back of the market they have these huge glass containers with live fish. These are not little aquarium fish, they were a good 6 to 8 inches long and 4 inches tall and there were hundreds of them. Talk about fresh fish.

It is on Buck Jones Road, in Cary, NC.

These cats were so cute especially since the left arm was constantly waving at us.

They even had little miniature kittys in these containers. A little hard to see in the containers but they were cute as well.

Of course they had the typical Chinese figures on sale.

Dragons & dainty serving sets are always popular on the Asian scene.

Very interesting items that make you want to stop and study them longer.

Unusual but very attractive ceramic creatures unique to this market.

I love this little ship with the unique figures on it. So much of their items were so eye catching and had the look of being very well made.

Crunchy rice snacks that are a variety of flavors. Haven't tried this one yet.

This is a 3 stack small package of sesame crisp that should be very tasty.

Spring onion crackers, YUMMY. Haven't opened them yet but am sure they will be very good.

These are a crispy rice snack with a sweet glaze on them. I have already eaten about half of this bag.

These are individually wrapped little cakes with a pineapple center. They are very good.

I have always been a fan of ginger and will certainly enjoy these individually wrapped little candies.

Wordless Wednesday - Nashville, NC

Farmers Market - Rocky Mount, NC

Very interesting, I saw these tomatoes which are lovely and tasty too later that day in sandwiches. The interesting part is that they come from Sun Burst in Nash County and the other day I was on Kathiey's blog and saw the same sign on her post in Cary, NC and found out that what she saw was the husbands stand while his wife runs the one in Rocky Mount, NC. See Kathiey is you haven't.

Just what everyone needs peas already shelled.
