Ranting Time

I get to thinking about an idea for something to blog about so I pull up the trusty Google search engine to help me get there quickly. It finds just what I was looking for so I click on it and where does it take me? To some page that wants to sell me something. Disgusted I hit the "back" button and the page just stays there. Then I have to pull down Google and click on it again to start over hoping for better luck the next time.

What is it with the way people price stuff in this country? Since day one when gasoline was available for sale it has always been a certain price and 9/10 of a cent. So instead of $2.99 9/10 you should be thinking $3.00. The other one that gets me is the psycological pricing that makes you think something is less than it really is. Like $499.95. You might as well think $500. It might draw others to their door but not Odie.

I know I should just go with the flow and not let these things bother me but I am afraid they do and that is just me.

  1. The internet is full of advertising links disguised as information sites. Once you go there they grab hold of you and don't want to let you leave. It's annoying and wastes valuable time.

Pricing has always amused me more than angered me. If they can move more product by setting the price at $499.95 it would not be good business sense to make it $500. Besides, the nickel you save brings you one step closer to buying that yacht you've had your eye on! (LOL)

  2. That's been happening to me a lot lately, the Google searching thing. It's really annoying and frustrating.

  3. I got sick of Google doing the same to me awhile back so I just switched over to another search engine. I have always bitched about that penny I am saving - before taxes of course.

  4. I've obviously been very fortunate, because I've never had that experience with google, although perhaps they're not so aggressive here in England!! I agree with you totally about the pricing. Why not just say 500 and have done with it! But obviously the experts must have told them that this works! Try not to let them get to you dear friend. Just think about that simple little cabin in the woods, with little Rusty sat on the porch!

  7. i couldn't have said that better myself. i hate the psychological pricing. silly people - they won't suck me in with "below 10,000!" and the price is 9,999.99.

hate the 9/10 on gasoline prices, too.

  8. The business world in this country builds itself on gullable people. I so agree with you.

  11. Yes Sir the whole 99 9/10 thing has always gotten to me also, the .99 cent store here changed to 99.9 cents store now, like you I'd rather see it called the dollar store.
